Who We Are
The Safe AI Coalition is a grassroots movement of ordinary people who believe that the development of artificial intelligence should serve everyone, not just a handful of technology companies. We are parents, workers, students, pensioners, and concerned citizens from all walks of life.
We are not anti-technology. We believe AI can bring tremendous benefits to society. But we also believe that such powerful technology must be developed carefully, with proper safeguards, and with input from the people whose lives it will affect.
Our coalition organises collective action to pressure organisations to pause dangerous training runs and adopt "Safe by Design" principles. Together, we can ensure that AI development happens at a pace that allows for proper safety checks and democratic oversight.
Our Core Values
Solidarity
We stand together as citizens, workers, and communities. The challenges posed by AI affect us all, and we must face them together. No one should be left behind in the rush towards automation.
Activism
Change happens when people speak up. Through campaigns, petitions, and verified signature drives, we make our voices heard. Direct, peaceful pressure on decision-makers is how democracies work.
Democratic Oversight
Technology that affects everyone should be governed by everyone. We call for transparent decision-making, public consultation, and accountable leadership in AI development.
What We Do
Open Letters & Petitions
We organise verified signature campaigns demanding specific safety measures, training pauses, or transparency requirements from AI developers.
Safety Pledge Tracking
We maintain a public record of which organisations have committed to third-party safety audits, helping the public make informed choices.
Harm Reporting
We collect and document reports of AI-related harms, building an evidence base for policy change and public awareness.
Community Organising
We connect concerned citizens, provide resources for local action, and build a movement that cannot be ignored.
